Low-Cost Mobile Operator, Avantimobile, Acquires VoIP Provider
Avantimobile, initially launched in the UK at the end of 2005, provides easy access to low-cost calls for most types of mobile phones on all of the major UK mobile networks. Customers register for Avantimobile via the company’s website, download a small application to their mobile phone and can then save up to 85% on many of the more expensive calls, currently charged for by the existing mobile networks. Registered customers of Avantimobile, can then use their existing mobile phones, don’t have to change network contracts or mobile number and there are no monthly fees payable to Avantimobile.
Tony Lloyd-Weston, Managing Director of Avantimobile said, “We have been negotiating with Clarendon Communications over the last month and are very pleased to have concluded this acquisition, which makes perfect sense for all parties involved. Bringing the VoIP switch and the considerable management experience within Avantimobile, will allow us to provide the most competitive pricing for our customers and to develop our VoIP network connectivity to meet the increase in demand from the UK, Ireland, a number of other European countries and America, North and South.”
This week, Avantimobile also announces that they plan to attract £3 million investment, enabling more rapid global roll-out of their services, to meet the increased call traffic requirement due to many of the international distribution enquiries received since the UK launch.
The Avantimobile announcements follow the news from last weeks Barcelona 3GSM show that Skype and 3 plan to trial similar services, confirming that the existing revenues for Vodafone, O2, Orange and t-mobile will be brought under further pressure from new technology convergence.
