Book Features Conflict Resolution Skills Learned on the Street
Street Negotiation offers a unique method for handling any type of conflict that comes about, whether it is professional or personal in nature. Loo incorporates his martial arts expertise and philosophy into the book with Zen stories and Gung-Fu principles.
“After working the streets for awhile, you start to pick up some valuable lessons about life, relationships, and communication,” Loo said. “While I’ve seen just about the worst that people can be, it’s been a very valuable lesson in helping me learn from the mistakes of others and understand better the nature of conflict and how it can be effectively resolved peacefully.”
Loo, 27, served as a police officer for five years, specializing in crisis intervention and tactical communication. He is the CEO and founder of the Synergy Institute, a personal development firm specializing in helping people realize and maximize their true potential(http://www.synergyinstituteonline.com). He wrote Street Negotiation while finishing his last undergraduate year at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he earned a B.A. in legal studies.
“The ability to negotiate a conflict peacefully and productively, whether it be business-related or in our personal lives is a life skill that unfortunately many people never learn,” Loo said. “I wrote Street Negotiation to empower people with the ability to negotiate compassionately.”
The author is already working on his next book, aimed at those in law enforcement, frontline employees, and teachers as a practical way to make peace with anyone. The tentative title is Jin Gong—The Art of Peaceful Control.
